Signing a Good Faith Estimate

Should I sign or not?

Just because you have the Good Faith Estimate in front of you doesn’t mean that you have to sign it.  Even if you do sign the paperwork and send it back to the mortgage company doesn’t mean you are locked into anything.  The only thing by signing the document does is it acknowledges that you understand and accept the fees put forth in front of you as estimated fees.

You can sign multiple Good Faith Estimates during your mortgage comparison process, but ultimately one will be chosen and finalized on the day of closing.  You are never committed to any mortgage company until you go to closing.  You can apply to 10 different (not recommended) mortgage companies and have them do the same amount of work and chose the one you like best based on what ever criteria you want to base them on.  Don’t be scared to sign the Good Faith Estimate it’s not binding you to a mortgage note at this point in time.
